5/6/2023 0 Comments Druid minor glyphsSince the pure tanking build above already includes most of the impactful cat DPS talents, only a few further tweaks must be made in order to generate an efficient off-tanking variant. Just as in TBC, Feral Druids excel at performing such hybrid off-tanking roles, since the most essential tanking talents in the tree can be picked up with only a minor loss to the Feral's DPS output. Examples of this include tanking an early kill target on the Assembly of Iron encounter in Ulduar and then DPSing the other council members, or picking up Nerubian Burrower adds in the Anub'arak encounter within Trial of the Crusader. This is a hybrid build for encounters in which you will be off-tanking hard hitting mobs in Dire Bear Form for part of the time, and then DPSing in Cat Form for the remainder. Hybrid Off-Tanking 0/54/17 Feral Druid Tank Talent Build In this scenario, the most efficient way to get the required talent points is by dropping Improved Mangle, which is not at all required for holding single target Threat effectively, followed by Improved Leader of the Pack. However, if your particular raid group lacks one of these debuffs, then it is absolutely worth speccing into Feral Aggression or Infected Wounds to make sure they are applied. Likewise, pretty much any raid composition will contain alternative sources of the attack speed debuff, mostly commonly via Frost Fever + Improved Icy Touch from Frost Death Knights. Both Protection and Retribution Paladins can easily spec into Vindication, which provides the same Attack Power reduction as a fully talented Demoralizing Roar but costs only 2 talent points rather than 5. However, both of these debuffs are more efficiently put up by other raid members. This is not because reducing enemy Attack Power and attack speed is unimportant! To the contrary, the Attack Power and attack speed debuffs are among the highest impact boss debuffs in the game, as they significantly reduce the burst damage potential of raid bosses and allow you to run fewer healers in your raid comp. Note that the Feral Aggression and Infected Wounds talents are omitted from this build. It also includes every talent that boosts your single target and AoE Threat generation except for Master Shapeshifter, which cannot be accommodated without giving up higher impact mitigation or utility talents. The build maxes out every Feral talent that increases your survivability when tanking in Dire Bear Form, while still picking up 2/2 Improved Leader of the Pack for the unique raid healing utility it provides. This is the standard PvE build that a Feral Druid should run when playing the main tank role in their raid group, meaning that you will be in Dire Bear Form pretty much all the time on trash and will be responsible for maintaining primary Threat on single target raid bosses. Mono-Bear 0/60/11 Feral Druid Tank Talent Build Outside of competitive speedrun environments, this limitation is not too big of a deal, since the introduction of the dual specialization feature in WotLK means that you can easily swap between a "mono-bear" main tanking build and a hybrid off-tanking build on the fly based on your assigned role for each encounter. Unlike TBC, however, it is no longer possible to both DPS and tank using an identical talent build without making some sacrifices to one of the roles. Similar to TBC, there is very little flexibility in viable talent builds for bear tanking in WotLK, since most of the tanking talents in the Feral tree are so impactful that they are non-negotiable.
